East London Wandering

Since working for the last couple of years, I have completely lost all ability to have a lie in (even on my days off). Last Sunday was no exception. On the upside, Columbia Road Flower Market is the perfect excuse to get out of the house early doors. With blossom filled streets and vintage shops, it’s a fab spot to head to before grabbing brunch.

Every Sunday morning, traders set up their stalls with a huge range of colourful flowers and amazing plants, calling out their special offers as you pass. The bouquets are huge and are great to buy as a gift or just as a treat for yourself (without the hefty price tag).

Wander further along and you’ll stumble across some independent stores selling loads of different homewares. One of the places to definitely have a nose around is the Nelly Duff Gallery. An art gallery where they show (and sell) fabulous original art work.

About half way down the road, turn left onto Ezra St. You’ll find cobbled streets, vintage stores and Campania, a great place to stop for coffee and brunch. Grab a table outside if you can and have a listen to  the street performances, whilst indulging in some people watching.

East End Thrift Store is a short walk away towards Whitechapel. It’s a huge warehouse, filled with secondhand coats, shirts and jumpers. Pick up a bag for £15, and fill it with as much as you can find. Have a browse, just leave enough time as it’ll take a while to root through everything!

Favourite bars & restaurants in Shoreditch

  • Barrio East – Mexican bar with a fab ‘amigo hour’ till 8pm everyday, serving cocktails for £5 and bottles of beer for £3.
  • Crown & Shuttle – a great pub to stop by for a drink after work, with a lovely beer garden.  Serving craft beers and tasty snacks from the food truck out back.
  • Boundary Rooftop – usually pretty busy, especially in the summer months, but a fab rooftop terrace to grab a cocktail or glass of wine. Don’t be put off by the queue – it usually moves pretty quickly and the panoramic city views are worth the wait.
  • Pizza East – with pizzas that are cooked in wood-fired ovens & with a buzzing atmosphere, this spot lives up to the hype. Book a table in advance if you want to avoid the queue!
