As the January blues set in, what better way to embrace the Danish trend than to plan a weekend getaway to Copenhagen. The definition of Hygge living is best described by “the absence of anything annoying or emotionally overwhelming; taking pleasure from the presence of gentle, soothing things”.. think candles, cosy spots and Scandinavian design. Just be prepared it can be quite expensive, even by London prices, so try to find a budget flight and central hotel to ease the dent in your wallet.
I thought I’d share some of my favourite spots to explore for a long weekend.
Best for.. modern art: SMK the National Gallery of Denmark
Best for…coffee: Atelier September
Best for…tourist wandering: Nyhavn
Best for…smørrebrød: Kompasset
Best for…street food: Papirøen (Paper Island)
Best for…exploring outside the city: Lousiana Art Gallery
Best for… a magical evening: Tivoli Gardens
Best for…an incredible set menu: Madklubben Vesterbro
My verdict on Hygge living..yes it definitely lives up to all of the hype.
